Renovation and Extension in Geelong
Built in 1873, this house is Geelong’s finest Victorian Italianate mansion complete with marble fireplaces, soaring ceilings, decorative cornices, intricate cast iron and tile work, slate roof, and integrated pipe organs that once provided entertainment for visitors in the ballroom.
To suit the owner’s family needs, a large modern addition was designed as a juxtaposition to the rear of the original period house. Comprising of 2 floors plus an underground games room basement, new kitchen, living, music studio, cinema and two bathrooms, this addition features terracotta tiles, black steel sheet cladding, blackbutt hardwood internal lining boards and steel frame windows and doors. Along with this addition a delicate process has been undertaken to restore the original ornate features of the home., Elements include new Welsh slate roof, restored brick chimneys and meticulously pointed brickwork, a modern two storey extension at the rear provides generous, highly crafted living spaces and modern amenity within this important heritage site.
