Hickleton
New Build in Lorne
A prominent site on the Great Ocean Road and just a stone’s throw from the water, the design respects the existing neighbours’ views and ensures privacy from the busy road, whilst allowing its occupants to take full advantage of the expansive ocean views.
The dwelling is splayed apart by a feature glazed void that wraps over the roof, providing a central lightwell that cleverly divides the bedroom wing from the living spaces. A double height rammed earth wall is topped with clerestory windows to allow warm northerly sunshine into the home whilst simultaneously providing privacy with the neighbours and the Great Ocean Road.
The front deck receives the morning sun whilst the rear deck, which is built back into the steep hill, receives evening sun and protection from the prevailing summer easterly winds. Large stacking glazed doors from the living room to both of these decks provides for a beautiful sightline between the greenery of the rear deck to Loutitt Bay beyond the front beach.
Sustainably sourced blackbutt timber has been applied both internally and externally and a large rammed earth wall has been utilised to the north.
